Jarryd Hayne, the former NRL star, has announced his return to rugby league by signing a one-year contract with the Wentworthville Magpies in the Ron Massey Cup for the 2025 season. This marks his first full season since 2018, following a period away from the sport.
In a heartfelt statement, Hayne expressed his commitment to the sport and his dedication to the Parramatta Eels, stating, “I will remain committed and dedicated over Parramatta Eels as fullback against the 2025 NRL season due to a devastating…” While the statement is incomplete, it underscores his strong resolve to contribute to the team.
Hayne’s return is motivated by his desire for his children to witness his on-field performances. He shared on social media, “Never did I imagine that I would ever come back. I am excited to begin my journey at a family club like Wenty, especially to play in front of my children which was part of the reason that inspired me to comeback.
The Wentworthville Magpies, a feeder team for the Parramatta Eels, have welcomed Hayne’s return. Club president Elias Kassab stated, “We have looked thoroughly into this before making the decision to have Jarryd join us. He’s a different person now. We’re happy that he could be playing for us and working with the little ones coming through the grades.”
