Jarryd Hayne, the former Parramatta Eels fullback and two-time Dally M Medalist, has announced his return to rugby league for the 2025 season. After a six-year hiatus, Hayne has signed a one-year contract with the Wentworthville Magpies, a feeder club for the Eels, to play in the Ron Massey Cup.

Reflecting on his decision, Hayne expressed a strong commitment to the sport and his family. He stated, “Grateful to be back playing the game I love… especially to play in front of my children, which was part of the reason that inspired me to come back.”

Hayne’s return follows the quashing of his sexual assault convictions, which had previously sidelined his career. He is set to make his debut for the Magpies on March 15, 2025, against Ryde-Eastwood.

The Wentworthville Magpies have welcomed Hayne’s return, emphasizing his potential to mentor junior players. Club president Elias Kassab remarked, “We are willing to give anyone a second chance so long as they are sincere, and Jarryd has been nothing but sincere and honest about things.”

Hayne’s dedication to the game and his family underscores his commitment to making a positive impact both on and off the field in the upcoming season.
