Jarryd Hayne, the former Parramatta Eels star, has made a strong commitment to the club for the 2025 NRL season. After a seven-year hiatus from professional rugby league, Hayne has signed a one-year contract with the Wentworthville Magpies, a feeder team for the Eels, to play in the Ron Massey Cup.
At 36, Hayne’s return to the field is driven by a desire to play in front of his children, who have not witnessed his professional career firsthand. He expressed his excitement on social media, stating, “Grateful to be back playing the game I love… especially to play in front of my children.”
The Wentworthville Magpies, a semi-professional rugby league team, are thrilled to have Hayne join their ranks. Club president Elias Kassab emphasized the importance of second chances, noting, “We are willing to give anyone a second chance so long as they are sincere, and Jarryd has been nothing but sincere and honest about things.”
Hayne’s return to rugby league follows the quashing of his sexual assault convictions, which led to his release from jail. He has been training with the Magpies and is set to play his first match on March 15 against Ryde-Eastwood.
