Dawn Staley, the esteemed head coach of the University of South Carolina’s women’s basketball team, has solidified her long-term commitment to the program by signing a groundbreaking contract extension. This agreement ensures her leadership through the 2029-30 season, reinforcing her pivotal role in elevating the Gamecocks to national prominence.
The contract, valued at approximately $25.25 million, positions Staley as the highest-paid coach in women’s college basketball history. It includes an annual base salary of $4 million, a $500,000 signing bonus, and a $250,000 salary increase each subsequent year. Notably, the agreement features an exit clause allowing Staley to transition to NBA or WNBA coaching roles without financial penalty, provided she remains at South Carolina for at least five more seasons.
Since joining South Carolina in 2008, Staley has transformed the women’s basketball program, leading them to three national championships (2017, 2022, and 2024) and securing six Final Four appearances. Her tenure has been marked by a remarkable 457-107 record, underscoring her effectiveness and dedication.
