The 27-year-old NRL champion, known for his leadership both on and off the field, revealed his plans earlier today in a press conference held outside the future shelter site, located near Mount Druitt. The facility, once a sprawling private residence, will soon be transformed into a safe haven for at-risk young people aged 16 to 24 who are experiencing homelessness, family breakdowns, or are escaping violence.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my life and career, and I feel a responsibility to give back to the community that raised me,” Cleary said. “Western Sydney has always been home. I want to help the next generation find their footing, especially those who’ve had the odds stacked against them.”
The shelter, which will operate under the name *Cleary House*, is scheduled to open its doors in early 2026. It will offer emergency accommodation for up to 40 individuals, with facilities including private rooms, counselling offices, job training spaces, and recreational areas. A partnership with Mission Australia and Headspace will ensure residents receive mental health support, education pathways, and employment opportunities.
Community leaders and fans alike have praised Cleary’s initiative. Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary, also Nathan’s father, called the gesture “one of the proudest moments of my life,” noting that it reflects Nathan’s integrity and genuine care for people in need.

As homelessness continues to rise across Australia, especially among youth, Cleary’s commitment sets a precedent for athletes and public figures using their platforms for positive change.
